Bike point opening on the Gasthuisberg campus

5 May 2021

As of 5 May anyone coming to the Gasthuisberg campus by bike can visit the brand-new Velo bike point. The bike point is open every weekday from 7 am to 7 pm and provides various services, ranging from bike repair and maintenance to bike rentals and the sale of bike parts and accessories.

It is no coincidence that the Gasthuisberg campus, with not only the hospital but also the two neighbouring campuses of UCLL and KU Leuven, was chosen as the location of the fourth Velo bike point. It is an important mobility hub: every day thousands of people commute to and from here. One fifth of all UZ Leuven employees comes to work by bike, and another 3 per cent combines bike and public transport.

Around the clock

The new bike point is located in the bike stand under the logistics platform, near the Onderwijs en navorsing parking. Every weekday between 7 am and 7 pm, the administrative and technical staff is available.

What can the bike point do for you

  • bike repair and maintenance
  • bike rental and UZ Leuven loan bikes
  • bike registration (marking): every Friday afternoon
  • sale bike parts, lighting, locks, second hand bikes ...
  • information on bikes (rental student bikes, bike lease ...)

Stimulate cycling

Peter Cnudde, head of the UZ Leuven logistics and mobility department: “The number of UZ Leuven employees to come to work by bike has more than doubled in comparison to 10 years ago. The past years we have invested in comfortable and spatious bike lanes, more bike stands, and a cycle allowance for our employees. The bike point is a logical next step to further support cycling to and from the hospital. Not just for our employees but also for visitors, patients and students.”

The Velo bike point opened its doors on Tuesday 4 May, tested and approved.
