Surgeons at UZ Leuven have developed a new transplant technique in which they use strong connective tissue from the abdominal wall of a deceased donor for patients with tissue defects throughout the body. Notably, these abdominal wall transplants are being performed for the first time without immunosuppressive medication.

Clinical trials still too often focus on fit older people, whilst doctors are increasingly treating vulnerable people aged 65 and over with complex care needs. This gap between research and practice makes it difficult to make the right treatment choices. Doctors are calling for clinical trials that better reflect everyday care and pay greater attention to what older patients themselves consider important.

Fake ads using the UZ Leuven logo are appearing on social media channels Facebook and Instagram. The hospital distances itself from these messages and is taking the necessary steps to report the account.
