In a new publication, UZ Leuven and KU Leuven underline the importance of sharing data in order to find biomarkers: characteristics that predict whether a treatment will work and whether there will be adverse effects. Better biomarker research avoids unnecessary side effects in patients and high costs for society.

As of 1 January 2026 a consortium formed by UZ Leuven and UZ Gent will conduct the population screening for congenital disorders in newborns. To this end, they have established the Flemish Centre for Neonatal Screening (VCNS).

During their cancer treatment many children loose their appetite or or experience changes in their sense of taste. As a result they will eat less, or less regularly, exactly at a time they need their strength the most. Snackmasters gives young patients more choice and enjoyment during their treatment.
