Fake ads using the UZ Leuven logo are appearing on social media channels Facebook and Instagram. The hospital distances itself from these messages and is taking the necessary steps to report the account.

First Flemish patient receives adjustable vocal cord implant

Doctors at UZ Leuven recently implanted a new type of implant in a patient with vocal cord problems for the first time in Flanders. The innovative implant makes it possible to adjust the voice even after the procedure, without the need for further surgery.

UZ Leuven to be reference hospital for coordinating care of EB patients

Since 1 April 2025 UZ Leuven has taken over the coordination of multidisciplinary care of epidermolysis bullosa (EB) patients in Belgium. Thanks to the new agreement with NIHDI, specialists can now respond even better to the specific care needs of EB patients.

New visiting policy at UZ Leuven: patients can designate a 'partner in care'

From Monday 2 June onwards, adult patients in UZ Leuven can designate a partner in care: a trusted person who actively supports them during their admission, including outside normal visiting hours. After a successful trial period, the project is now being rolled out throughout the entire hospital.

Belgian milestone: UZ Leuven carries out 1,500th lung transplant

Recently, the lung transplant team successfully performed the 1,500th lung transplant at UZ Leuven. Today, the centre ranks among the top European centres and performs some two-thirds of all Belgian lung transplants every year and achieves excellent results.

UZ Leuven climbs to place 40 in new Newsweek ranking of best hospitals in the world

The American magazine Newsweek and data platform Statista rranked the best hospitals in the world for the seventh year in a row: World's Best Hospitals 2025. In it, UZ Leuven is the first Belgian hospital at position 40, which is four places higher than in 2024 and no less than eight places higher than in 2023.
