Saying goodbye to a deceased person

You can visit the mortuary to say goodbye to the deceased from Monday to Friday between 14 and 17 hrs. During the weekend and on public holidays this is possible in the morning and by appointment only.

The UZ Leuven management and staff want to extend their sincerest condolences at the passing of your loved one.

For emotional support, you can always get in touch with the social worker or one of the pastoral care workers of our hospital.

You can always request the support of a pastoral care worker to:

say goodbye together.
support you.
pray together.
perform a farewell ritual.

Registration of death

For patients that have passed away in UZ Leuven, registration of death needs to be done at the city of Leuven. The registration is usually organised by the funeral director, but in principle anyone of legal age can do it.

Funeral or cremation?

A funeral is a ceremony in which someone who has died is buried. In case of a cremation, you can have the ashes scattered, buried or interred at the cemetery or at a location of your choice. Find out what you need to do.

Transfer of the deceased

The deceased can be collected from the mortuary for transfer to a private funeral home every day between 9 and 12:30 hours and between 13:30 and 17 hrs.
