Focus falls behind the retina

Your eye is too short. As a result, light rays converge behind your retina.

Your spectacle lenses therefore have a positive power, for example +3 dioptres (+3 D).

Because your eye is relatively too short, the focus falls behind the retina. As a result, your distance vision is blurred and your near vision is even more blurred.

Symptoms

The main symptom of long-sightedness is blurred distance vision and even more blurred near vision.

Treatment

Below are some possible treatments for this condition. After the diagnosis, your doctor will work with you and the other doctors on the team to select the best option for you. Your treatment may therefore differ from the treatment or treatments described below.

Spectacle lenses or contact lenses

Spectacle lenses or contact lenses with a positive dioptric power.

Lens implant

Lens implant with or without preservation of the natural lens.

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)

After lifting a thin layer of the cornea, known as a flap, an excimer laser is used to correct the deeper layers of the cornea and improve visual acuity.

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)

A central, superficial laser treatment that changes the curvature of the cornea.

Lens replacement

Removal of the natural eye lens and replacement with an artificial lens that corrects the refractive error. Multifocal, toric, or multifocal-toric lenses can be used for this purpose, so that you are as independent of glasses as possible after the procedure.
