Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)

UPPP
Surgical procedure to reduce the amount of tissue in the throat. This improves airway patency and reduces snoring.

Procedure

During a UPPP, the patency of the pharyngeal airway is improved by:

  • Removal of the tonsils.
  • Shortening of the uvula and soft palate.
  • Suturing of the palatal arches.

The effect of the surgery on snoring can only be assessed after about two months due to swelling during the healing process.
