Who can refer patients to the proton centre?

Within the framework of compulsory health insurance (medical care insurance), only recognised radiotherapy centres - centres that have concluded an agreement on this with the NIHDI - can refer patients to a specialised centre for proton therapy.

However, a radiotherapy centre that does not have an agreement with NIHDI can register a patient for discussion at the Proton Round at PARTICLE. If the indication is accepted for proton therapy, it remains to be seen which centre submits the application to NIHDI.

As a patient, it is not possible to apply directly for proton therapy treatment. If you are wondering whether proton therapy is an option for you, it is best to discuss this with your treating radiotherapist-oncologist first.
