Neurosurgeons at UZ Leuven have successfully performed deep brain stimulation with the help of a robot. The robot has a highly accurate and stable target arm, which assists the surgeon inserting the elektrodes and biopsy needles in the right direction and the correct depth in the brains.

In a new trial dr. Brecht Decraene examines why some patients with a gioblastoma survive ten times longer than the average 15 months. Acquiring insight in the causes, would make it possible in the future to develop more targeted treatments for this type of cancer.

A recent real-world study confirms that deep brain stimulation is a successful and well-supported treatment for patients with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. The trial included various European centres all trained by a UZ Leuven and UPC KU Leuven team.
