Susceptibility to infections

Most patients on this ward have impaired immunity. Therefore, a few specific measures are needed. Simple precautions help stop the spread of bacteria and thus prevent hospital infections.

What to keep in mind

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or disinfect them with hand alcohol. Hand alcohol is available in every patient room.
  • Ensure good general hygiene.
  • Use paper tissues in the hospital and throw them away immediately after use. Always cover your nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing. Wash or disinfect your hands afterwards.
  • Never walk around the hospital barefoot.
  • The windows in the rooms must not be opened because of dust and potentially dangerous germs. The air is changed internally. If you are hot, the nurse can give you a fan. All rooms are equipped with a cooling system that can be controlled via the thermostat.
  • All water taps on the ward are fitted with a special filter. This makes the water virtually germ-free. Please do not touch these filters at the bottom.

Your immune defences may be so weakened that you need to be cared for in isolation and additional measures may need to be taken for you. The doctor and nurses will discuss this thoroughly with you and your visitor.

What is expected of visitors

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or disinfect them with hand alcohol. Hand alcohol is available in each patient room.
  • All visitors are asked to disinfect hands thoroughly. Ask to postpone the visit if your visitor is ill or has a cold.
  • Limit visits to 3 people.
  • Use the toilets in the corridor instead of the toilet in the room.
  • If your relative is cared for in isolation, some measures may be in force. It is best to discuss this with a nurse.
