Staying overnight in the PAZA

Sometimes extra monitoring is needed after a procedure. In that case, you may stay one or two nights in the PAZA. We usually discuss this with you in advance.

Why do you sometimes stay longer in the PAZA?

You will only stay in the PAZA if it is medically necessary. This allows us to monitor your recovery from the anaesthetic closely.

What can you expect?

Your stay follows the same pattern as during the day: we will continue to monitor you as in the recovery room.

During an overnight stay:

  • you remain connected to monitoring equipment
  • a nurse continues to monitor your vital signs and comfort
  • you will receive medication if needed

As soon as your condition allows, we will take you back to your ward.

For parents and carers of children

If a child needs to stay overnight in the PAZA, this always takes place in a cubicle. This overnight stay is usually discussed with you beforehand.

At night too, one adult carer may stay with the child. You can:

  • sleep on a chair in the cubicle if you wish
  • or choose to sleep on the inpatient ward

You can call at any time during the night if you have questions or are worried.
