Convention or non-convention doctors

The convention status determines the fee supplements

A doctor can be conventioned in 3 ways.

  1. Fully conventioned (affiliated): the doctor keeps to the agreed rate and does not charge any fee supplements.
  2. Partly conventioned (partially affiliated): the doctor is not conventioned at certain times and may charge fee supplements at those times.
  3. Unconventioned (unaffiliated): in principle, the doctor may always charge fee supplements.

Look up a doctor's convention status on the NIHDI (RIZIV/INAMI) website.

On the national agreement between doctors and health insurance funds

Every 2 years, an agreement is concluded between doctors and health insurance funds: the national agreement between doctors and health insurance funds. This agreement includes an agreement on the tariffs for medical services. Each doctor chooses whether or not to join this agreement.
