UZ Leuven expands its reference centre andrology

This year the Leuven training centre for andrology meets the requirements of the three yearly audit by the European Academy of Andrology once again. As such, the centre maintains its position as one of some 25 European centre of excellence for andrology.

Procedure

The andrologist will examine the male reproductive organs for potential anomalies. More specifically he will look at:

  • Shape, volume and firmness of the testicles
  • Epididymes
  • Ejaculatory ducts
  • Varicose veins and hernias

These aspects can give valuable information about the potential causes of irregular sperm production. For instance, a thorough clinical examination will make it possible to detect an obstruction of the ejaculatory ducts. 

Next step could be an additional check-up with an ultrasound.
