Stoma: hospital stay

Before and after your ostomy, the operation to create your stoma, you will be admitted to a hospitalisation ward. You can find practical information about your stay, visiting hours and the care team on the ward’s welcome page.

After the operation you will stay in the recovery room or PAZA (post-anaesthesia care unit). There, you will be closely monitored and every effort will be made to ensure that pain is kept to a minimum. Once you are sufficiently awake and stable, you can return to your room on the hospitalisation ward.

During your stay in hospital, both immediately after the procedure and before you are discharged from hospital, the stoma nurse will contact you. Furthermore, during your stay, you can ask the ward nurses any questions you may have.
