1.5 million Belgians use the same digital care app

26 august 2025
The digital health portal Mynexuzhealth has reached the milestone of 1.5 million active users. The app, which started in 2016 as a joint ventur between UZ Leuven and Cegeka, has grown into the largest patient portal of the country in less than 10 years' time.

In the meantime the app has become the patient portal for 40 hospitals in Belgium. The past year, patients consulted more than 4 million appointments and almost 6 million medical reports via the app. The strong growth shows that there is a increasing need for transparent and accessible digital care. Patients needing care from different doctors, hospitals and care institutions often can't find their way in the abundance of apps and systems. The oversupply of fragmented information leads to confusion. People often have to switchs between the various apps for appontments, medical records, communication with care providere and medication management. In Belgium alone there are currently 2 8 apporoved healthcare app.

People want to get a better grip on their own health. This is why Nexuzhealth develops digital tools to break through inefficient patient pathways and fragmented care. The app Mynexuzhealth collects medical data, appointments, reports and communication with care providers in one central and safe place. Successfully, because, on average, patients use the app more than twice a week.

Prof. dr. Gert Van Assche, chief medical officer at UZ Leuven:  “Mynexuzhealth allows for transparent and clear communication with our patients. As a user you get a handy overview of appointments and medical reports. We also get a lot of positive feedback about the user friendliness of the app. That is why UZ Leuven is making every effort to encourage the use of Mynexuzhealth and to help patients get started with it. We strive to be as paperless as possible.”

Gertie Delande, CEO of Nexuzhealth: “This milestone reflects both the patients and care providers' trust in Mynexuzhealth. We remain committed to making digital care more accessible and more user-friendly, while tackling the complex challenges of interoperability. By effectively connecting systems and strengthening integrations, we ensure a safe and efficient cooperation between care professionals and an improved care experience for patients."

This milestone is the result of a close collaboration between hospitals such as UZ Leuven, AZ Groeninge, Jessa Ziekenhuis, AZ Turnhout, Azorg and other care organisations within the Nexuzhealth community.
