Choosing your room

Your choice of room has a significant impact on your hospital invoice. Depending on the room you choose, room and doctor’s fee supplements may be charged.

What to bring upon your admission

Always bring your eID and contact details of your next of kin and your GP. Read what else you should bring for a smooth admission, what to bring for your child and what to do in case of an occupational accident.

Whom to inform of your admission

Remember to inform your health insurance provider, hospitalisation insurance provider and your GP as soon as your admission is planned and arranged.

Preventing infections

By taking a few simple measures, you can avoid becoming infected or infecting others.

Admission declaration

Are you being admitted to the hospital for a day or longer? Then you will need to sign an admission declaration on the day of your admission. The admission declaration provides an overview of your personal contributions to the costs.

Visits

Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 16:00 to 20:00 and on weekends from 14:00 to 20:00. Patients may designate a ‘partner in care’ who may also attend during the day outside visiting hours. There are adapted visiting arrangements for paediatrics, neonatology, maternity, intensive care, emergency and palliative patients.

Dagziekenhuis 2

Day hospital for orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology and obstetrics, traumatology, ear, nose and throat disease, head and neck surgery, vascular surgery, (paediatric) dentistry, ophthalmology, dermatology, plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, neurosurgery, abdominal surgery and oncological surgery.

Dagziekenhuis 3

This day hospital accomodates procedures of opthalmology, vascular surgery, dermatology, orthopaedic surgery and surgical oncology.

Dagziekenhuis 4

At this day hospital, procedures are performed in cardiovascular diseases, orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology and obstetrics, traumatology, ear, nose and throat disease, head and neck surgery, and vascular surgery.

Admission with overnight stay

What is the procedure for an admission via a hospital ward?

Do you have to undergo an operation, where you are first admitted to a hospitalisation ward and return to your hospitalisation ward after your operation. How will your journey unfold? How can you best prepare?

Partner in care

When admitted to hospital, you may designate a ‘partner in care’. This is one person who may be with you at all times during the day, including outside normal visiting hours. You may choose who fulfils this role. You are not obliged to designate a partner in care.

Rooming-in with a patient

If your child is admitted to a paediatric nursing unit, the rooming-in of either parent is always possible. In some situations, rooming-in with an adult patient is also possible. UZ Leuven also offers some lodging options in and close to the hospital. See all the possibilities here.

Going home

Your treating doctor will determine when you are ready for discharge from hospital. Before your discharge, discuss with your healthcare providers how to best prepare for the discharge date.

Payment

During your stay at the hospital, you do not need to pay for your hospitalisation. After your discharge, the invoice is first sent to your health insurance fund and, if applicable, to your hospitalisation insurance. You will then receive an invoice for the co-payment.
