The gastroenterology-hepatology division consists of twenty-one medical staff members, who are responsible for the entire spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. Five staff members are devoted to the care of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies, working intensively together in multidisciplinary teams across various care programmes. The Digestive Oncology clinic at UZ Leuven is the largest of its kind in Belgium and has a “secondary care role” for regional patients, as well as a “tertiary care role” including an intense referral programme within a network of more than 15 affiliated hospitals. UZ Leuven is a referral centre for complex surgery of the oesophagus and pancreas and an ENETS Centre of excellence for the management of neuroendocrine tumours.
