Welcome to EPI2kX
Dear colleagues,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to join us at the 11th Workshop on Electronic Portal Imaging to be held in Leuven, Belgium, June 7th and 8th 2010.
The subtopic of this workshop is in-treatment verification. This aims at trying to assess the actual treatment on a positioning, dosimetric, or biological level. This implies that we are also inviting contributions from other modalities than photons. All types of treatment verification can be important. to assess the patients' treatment. I would therefore also like to welcome therapists, physicists and physicians to this workshop.
The use of technology for imaging is important as are the newer developments on the level of equipment.
We have an interesting line-up of different speakers, but as usual it is the contribution of the delegates that make the success of the workshop, so I expect to receive many interesting and innovative contributions. The workshop is well known as one of the most interactive events in the radiation oncology environment. A feature characterized by intense discussion during and after the talks but also in the after hours. It is this environment that allows the introduction of innovative (read crazy) ideas to an open minded audience.
This time we have chosen to co-operate with the ICCR 2009, which is held in Amsterdam one week beforehand. This to allow for travelers to extend their useful stay in Europe. Amsterdam is a short train ride (less than 2 hours) from Leuven or a 2.5h drive.This means that we will cooperate closely with ICCR to reduce overlap in the submissions and suggest to submit more appropriately.
Apart from the scientific content there are many interesting things to see and do. The venue is located in the historic center of Leuven which is provided with many cafes and restaurants at each price and taste. Also the social program is almost worth the trip.The Icebreaker is within a direct tap line distance from the Stella Artois Brewery (AmBev) and the Social event is located in the renowned Faculty Club with added musical entertainment of extremely high quality.
