For studying patients functionality in terms of energy consumption, a portable oxygen consumption measurement system can be used. For this test a facial mask is placed on the mouth of the child and a small telemetric device is attached with a backpack.

The oxygen consumption is than measured during sitting, standing and walking during a period of time. A special trajectory in the Northern lab is used for energy measurements. The total duration of this energy consumption measurement is about one hour.
