Guesthouse for relatives
UZ Leuven has established the ‘Guesthouse for Relatives’ to enable family members, friends or out-patients to stay near patients being treated at the hospital. The guesthouse has single, double and triple rooms and is located on Sint-Pieter’s campus, UZ Leuven, in Brusselsestraat.
Volunteers take care of the day-to-day running of the guesthouse, which allows us to keep the prices very low.
Only one room per patient may be reserved.

Telephone calls
Internal calls
You can make calls within UZ Leuven free of charge using the telephone in your room. For instance, if you wish to call your relative in the hospital, then dial the five figures of their telephone (these correspond to the last five figures of the telephone code you are given to call your relative). You can also contact the nursing staff on the ward where your relative is a patient.
To receive internal calls (for instance, from your relative at campus Gasthuisberg), pass on the number on the telephone in your room (five figures).
External calls
You cannot dial an external line from the telephone in your room. However, there is a public telephone (Proton or telephone cards) on your floor and in the reception hall on each campus. You can buy telephone cards from the volunteer.
Arrangements
- The ‘Guesthouse for Relatives’ provides bed linen, kitchen linen, household amenities, cleaning materials and products. You provide towels and toiletries.
- Please tidy up when you use the common rooms.
- Beds are let per night. Nights when you do not stay in the guesthouse but wish to keep your bed are also charged. If you would prefer that this is not the case, read the section on “Departure” (see
below). More information can be obtained from the volunteer. - Do not leave large sums of money or valuable items in your room, not even in the locked cupboard. If you are really unable to leave them at home, you may give them to the social worker on the ward where your relative is being treated for safekeeping.
- For reasons of hygiene it is not permitted to eat or keep food in your room. However, you can use the day room and the kitchen.
- Please make sure they are clean and tidy when you leave.
- Smoking has not been permitted in UZ Leuven since 1 September 2006.
- You can use the washing machine.
- Candles may not be burnt in the room due to the risk of fire. However, this is permitted in the chapel on the second floor or in the chapel on Gasthuisberg campus.
Departure
In principle you should leave the room by 12 noon on the day of departure. Please contact the volunteer during the hours indicated before you leave to return your key and possibly settle the account. If the volunteer is not present, please place the key in a pre-printed envelope which you will find on top of the letterbox in the corridor.
Do not forget to fill in your details on this envelope. Please leave your room neat and tidy. Leave the sheets in the white bags in the storage room.
Payment
For guests from Belgium and the Netherlands, in principle payment is made via the hospital account of the patient. Exceptionally you can also pay in cash.
For this purpose, contact the volunteer during the hours indicated. If no bill is prepared for the hospital stay or consultation or for guests who are not resident in Belgium or the Netherlands, payment is requested in cash in advance (upon registration).
Accesibility
The guesthouse is located at Brusselsestraat 69. (You can announce your arrival at the reception on Sint-Pieter’s campus). A receptionist from the hospital will show you the way, or you can follow the signs: ‘Verblijf voor familie’. If the entrance in Brusselsestraat is locked at night, ring the bell and the security guard will open the door.
By public transport
‘De Lijn’ buses travel between Sint-Pieter’s campus and Gasthuisberg campus approximately every 15 minutes. You can obtain precise details at reception. In an emergency at night it is best to contact the night security guard on 37004.
